Getting There
By Air
Many international airlines operate regular weekly flights to and from Europe. There are many connecting flights from the neighbouring countries of Africa and Asia. There are regular flights from Madagascar to Réunion, Mauritius, Kenya, Tanzania, the Comoro Islands, the Seychelles and Zimbabwe. London is 13 hours 50 minutes flying time from Antananarivo.
The international terminus is 17km from the city centre. Airport facilities include restaurant and a bureau de change that is open during arrivals and departures of international flights. There are bus services to the Air Madagascar office. Taxis are also available at the airport but may require a bit of haggling in order to get the accurate fare fixed. The departure tax on domestic flights is US $ 2.
By Sea
Boat service in Antananarivo is slightly cheaper than flights but the journey is quite tedious. Many international tour operators promote Madagascar as an enroute halt on extended cruises of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans. Cruise liners and passenger ships plying the route make a halt at Toamasino, the main port.
By Rail
A railway line connects the capital with Toamasina, the island's chief port, to the east, with Antsirabe to the south and Lake Alaotra to the north.
